This photograph is about motion, about spinning, sparks flying off in many directions.  Yet the subject is static, an agave firmly rooted and with no intention of spinning or moving anywhere.  I believe a work of art is successful when it transcends its original subject matter and loosens our imagination to travel, to create new worlds and situations, to tell stories.

Art is not an explanation or a statement, art is an experience.  That is what I aim at with my photography, to create an experience.  If the subject does not swirl, then make your imagination swirl.  Experience swirling by looking at the photograph.  Experience swirling and wonder about the nature of the universe.  If I can induce this in the people who look at my work, I will have been successful.

I have received much positive feedback on this photograph, and as such have decided to make it my second “Unique Print”.  It is now available as a single-edition A2-sized (420x594 mm including the white borders) print, signed on the back and mailed with a certificate of authenticity.  You can find it here in my Unique Prints gallery.
